Crowded race for Mount Prospect village board

A crowded race has developed for the Mount Prospect village board, with seven candidates filing nomination papers for three available seats.

Filing for the election closed at 5 p.m. Monday.

Incumbent Paul Hoefert, John Korn and Richard Rogers are seeking re-election to 4-year terms, while newcomers John Dyslin, Kevin Grouwinkel, Kevin J. Nohelty and Colleen Saccotelli have also filed.

Dyslin, making his second run for the board, said he's running in part because he believes the village has become too secretive about certain matters, such as the recent $6.5 million settlement with Ye Olde Town Inn owner Tod Curtis.

"The board is sorely in need of some new blood," Dyslin told the Daily Herald last week.

Nohelty was the last to file Monday, the final day on which candidates could submit their papers to the village clerk's office.

The consolidated local election will be held April 7, 2015, with elections for some mayors, village boards, city councils, school boards, park boards, library boards and fire districts.

Mount Prospect Mayor Arlene Juracek is in the middle of her term, which ends in 2017.
