Put food on the table for our children

This year there were two occasions when my eyes welled with tears. When I heard that my brother's wife of nearly 50 years had died, I teared up - feeling deeply my brother's loss. As I listened to MSNBC today talking about the 39 million people who rely on food banks for their food, children who leave school on Friday afternoon and do not receive food until school on Monday, I teared up again (even as I type this), thinking, how can we allow this to be?

I will insist that my wife and I make a food contribution to our local pantry and take a bag of food to church on Sunday for delivery to that local food bank. But, it is not enough. Priorities, priorities.

Yes, I favor a minimum wage at least as high as $15 an hour. But first, feed our people. Make sure that no child goes to bed hungry. This is not charity. This is our nation, supposedly the richest nation in the world. Feed our children.
