Repeat Leyden title for Rolling Meadows

Rolling Meadows repeated as champion of the boys swimming invitational at Leyden, topping West Chicago and the host Eagles for the title on Saturday.

Jake Barson won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:01.21, Filip Pancerz won the 100 back in 59.49, Kuba Debkowski won the 50 free in 23.22 and Josh Dellorto won twice, taking both the 200 free (1:48.68) and 500 free (4:59.87).

The 500 effort from Dellorto lowered his own team record.

With victories in all three relays, the Mustangs finished with 311 points, while West Chicago finished at 260 and Leyden at 206.

Meadows coach Monika Chiappetta enjoyed the opportunity to keep her focus on her swimmers' performances, as some split-taking swimmers who weren't participating in the meet allowed her an unusual level of coaching freedom.

"It was nice because I could really just watch the swims, and I definitely saw some things we can work on," she said. "My kids are so hungry to learn. They're already looking forward to what's next.

"It's not enough that they're swimming well - they want details."

Other notable efforts from Meadows included a third-place finish from Barson on the 200 IM (2:05.63), a second from Jake Pors in the 100 free (53.68) and a second from Kamil Halaj in the 100 back (1:01.84).

at Downers South: Palatine swam to a sixth-place finish in the 36th annual Downers Grove South Invitational, a 10-team meet, on Saturday.

Alex Bartosik and Adam Smith had the top finishes for the Pirates.

Bartosik placed second in the 200-yard IM (2:04.19) while Smith was second in the 500-yard free (5:11.68).

Bartosik also placed fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.74) and joined Marcus Carter-Buckman, Jordan Kalina and Jacob Baran on the sixth-place 200 medley relay (1:45.57).

Kalina provided third-place points in the 100 fly (56.93) and joined Jacob Klein, Smith and Oleksiy Korniychuk on the sixth-place 400 free relay (3:31.38).

Carter-Buckman finished sixth in the 50 free (23.53) and had leg on the fourth-place 200 free relay (1:33.30) with Baran, Klein and Bartosik.

Stagg won the meet with 381 points, and Palatine finished at 248 without points from Friday's diving event.

Wheaton co-op's Max St. George set a pool record by winning the 100 backstroke in 51.83.
