Music notes: Drive-By Trucker Hood plays solo show at SPACE

Solo Trucker

Patterson Hood is one of the primary singer-guitarist-songwriters in the excellent neo-Southern-rock band Drive-By Truckers. He's also a solo artist whose last record, "Heat Lightning Rumbles in the Distance," was a stellar collection of poignant, witty songs, all highlighted by Hood's warm and rough singing voice. Hood will perform this weekend in the North suburbs.

8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19, at SPACE, 1245 Chicago Ave., Evanston. Tickets start at $24. Go to evanstonspace.com.

Local metal show

Born of Osiris is an experimental band that was, um, born in the suburbs (Palatine, Barrington, Naperville). The band will play a hometown show this weekend at Durty Nellie's.

6:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, at Durty Nellie's, 180 N. Smith St., Palatine. $12. Go to durtynellies.com.

A 'Cheap' evening

Robin Zander, frontman of Rockford's beloved power-pop outfit Cheap Trick, will perform two solo shows (accompanied by the Robin Zander Band) this weekend in the suburbs. He'll be playing his own material as well as some classic Cheap Trick hits.

8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, and 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, at the Arcada Theatre, 105 E. Main St., St. Charles. Tickets start at $19. Go to oshows.com.
