Buffalo Grove honors planner

The Buffalo Grove Village Board honored longtime Village Planner Robert Pfeil this week.

Pfeil, who is retiring at the end of the year, served the village from 1987 to 2014.

In reading the proclamation in his honor, Village President Jeffrey Braiman noted that Pfeil has been a longtime member of the American Institute of Certified Planners, the American Planning Association and the Urban Land Institute.

Pfeil has also served as the village's representative on the Northwest Municipal Conference Bicycle & Pedestrian Committee and is a member of the Northwest Suburban Housing Collaborative Steering Committee.

Braiman said that during Pfeil's tenure, the village grew from approximately 26,000 residents to a peak population of 43,000 residents and 9.25 square miles.

Among Pfeil's accomplishments are coordination of preparation of the village's comprehensive plans in 1992, 1998 and 2009, coordination of the Transit Oriented Development Study in 2007 and of the Village of Buffalo Grove Bicycle Plan in 2014. He served the Plan Commission and its successor, the Planning and Zoning Commission.
