Free tax return preparation:

The Center for Economic Progress will provide free tax return preparation assistance to low-income families and individuals. An award-winning nonprofit, CEP offers free confidential tax help to families earning up to $50,000 annually and individuals earning up to $25,000 annually. With 15 sites throughout Illinois, the long-established organization will provide assistance in Lake County from Jan. 24 through April 14. All services are provided by trained and certified volunteers and staff members. CEP's tax site in Lake County is at The Father Gary Graf Center, 510 10th St., Waukegan. Hours of operation are Tuesday, Thursday, 5:30 to 8 p.m.; and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. For shorter wait times, visit in March.
