Two Elgin 18-year-olds charged in armed violence
Two Elgin men have been charged with armed violence and other crimes after another 19-year-old man was struck in the face by a bottle.
Alfonso Estrada Jr., 18, and Edgar A. Torres, 18, were charged with armed violence, vehicular invasion, mob action and aggravated battery, all of which are felonies.
Elgin police responded to the 700 block of North Spring Street on Dec. 13 for a battery report.
Police spoke to the 19-year-old man, who said he was visiting a friend. He said several people “known to him” had approached him while he sat inside a vehicle outside his friend's home, according to a news release.
An altercation occurred, and the 19-year-old said he was hit in the face by a bottle, which gave him a laceration.
The victim was taken to Advocate Sherman Hospital, received treatment and was released.
Authorities identified the suspects as Estrada and Torres, and they will appear in Kane County bond court Thursday.
