Hawks keep Raanta; re-assign Darling

The winner of the Blackhawks' backup goalie derby is Antti Raanta, who started Tuesday night and got his second straight victory in the 5-3 win over Minnesota.

Scott Darling was reassigned to the Rockford IceHogs. He appeared in seven games with the Hawks, going 5-2 with a .937 save percentage and 1.97 goals-against average.

The two goalies were in an intense battle following starter Corey Crawford's injury, each putting big numbers and making it a tough decision for coach Joel Quenneville.

The Winter Classic has been held at a number of iconic sites over the years: Wrigley Field, Michigan Stadium and Fenway Park to name a few.

Asked on Tuesday where his dream Winter Classic might be held - if cost and logistics were not issues - Blackhawks owner Rocky Wirtz came up with a couple of places that would fill the bill.

"I think either at Notre Dame or in Green Bay - either one," Wirtz said. "Notre Dame would be good because we have training camp there, and it's just neat and you get a lot of people …

"And obviously, wherever you play, if you play the Red Wings, it would be ideal."

Big numbers:

When it comes to All-Star Game voting, the Blackhawks are getting plenty of love.

The second, third and fourth spots in the voting are occupied by Hawks: Patrick Kane (586,310), Jonathan Toews (573,198) and Duncan Keith (567,184).

For the third straight week, Buffalo center Zemgus Girgensons (1,089,865) is the top vote-getter.

Wanting back in:

While goalie Corey Crawford (ankle) told reporters after Tuesday's morning skate that he's itching to get back in the lineup, his coach wasn't biting.

"He probably wanted to play last week, too," Joel Quenneville said. "He still has a little bit of an issue with it but I think he's really progressed.

"If it was a playoff game today, I'm sure he'd play."

He said it:

"I was watching three hockey games and the Bears … and 'The Voice.'"
