Elgin police searching for suspected shooter

Police are looking for a suspect who fired gunshots at a 33-year-old Elgin man as he walked in a neighborhood west of the city's downtown early Sunday morning.

At about 4:16 a.m., Elgin police responded to Lawrence Avenue and Silver Street for a report of gunshots heard in the area, authorities said.

Once on scene, officers learned that the victim was walking in the area when he saw an unknown person walking nearby. The victim told officers the person then shot in his direction before running from the scene, police said. The victim was not injured.

Detectives from Elgin's Police Department's Major Investigations Division are heading the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact them at (847) 289-2600.
