Police: 3 targeted men via escort ads in Carpentersville

Three people were arrested in Carpentersville after robbing one man - and possibly more - who had responded to escort ads, police said.

Kristin Robson, 19, of the 600 block of Indigo Lane, Woodstock, and Joshua Hampton, 25, of the 9200 block of South Throop Street, Chicago, were charged with aggravated robbery; Hampton was also charged with armed robbery with a firearm, court records show.

A male juvenile was also arrested with them, Carpentersville Police Cmdr. Erman Blevins said.

The victim, an Elgin man in his late 30s, responded to an ad placed by Robson on the website backpage.com, and he met Robson at an apartment building on the 500 block of Elm Ridge Road at about 2 p.m. Monday, Blevins.

The victim followed Robson inside to a utility room, where he was approached from behind by the men, Blevins said.

"A pistol was placed in the back of his head, and he was told to lay down on the ground," Blevins said.

The man was robbed of his cellphone, debit card and $300 in cash, he said.

Police had already been investigating similar incidents in Carpentersville and arrested the three offenders after they used the man's debit card and returned to Carpentersville, Blevins said.

A police officer saw the suspects' vehicle, a silver Chrysler 300, drive by the police department later Monday afternoon, he said. The three were arrested shortly after.

Robson told police the three had conspired to rob the victim, and that her cut would be 50 percent, Blevins said. "She was setting up dates ... and these men would show up and get robbed," he said.

The offenders have no apparent connection to the apartment building where the crime took place, Blevins said. The building and utility room were unlocked, he said.

Robson's and Hampton's bail was set at $150,000 in Kane County bond court Tuesday morning, and they are next due in court Dec. 17.
