Homeowner injured in Hoffman Estates fire

A family pet died and a homeowner was injured in a fire in Hoffman Estates Monday afternoon.

Firefighters responded to the blaze just after 12:30 p.m. and arrived to find a two-story, single-family home on the 1400 block of Della Drive engulfed in flames, according to a news release. The home's occupant was able to escape and was taken to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, then transferred to Loyola Medical Center.

Fire officials believe the family's dog died in the blaze. A firefighter suffered a minor injury while fighting the blaze.

Other departments that assisted included: Streamwood, Palatine, Carpentersville, Elk Grove Village, Barrington, Elgin, and Hanover Park.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Fire officials estimated damages at more than $600,000.
