Boy, 6, dies after apparent accidental shooting

A 6-year-old boy has died after authorities believe he was accidentally shot Friday night near Villa Park.

Michael Cattron III was pronounced dead at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. An autopsy on the boy is set for Sunday morning.

The boy was shot Friday night and was rushed to the hospital, according to the DuPage County Sherriff's Office. Spokeswoman Dawn Domrose would only say that the sheriff's office is investigating and would not release any additional details.

Michael lived with his father near Villa Park since the summer, after his mother was fatally shot driving on the Dan Ryan Expressway, ABC 7 Chicago reported.

Jasmine Curry, a 24-year-old mother of five from Chicago, was killed less than a year after her 17-year-old brother was also fatally shot on the city's South Side. At the time, her father and Michael's grandmother said she was pregnant.

"Now I got to bury another child, another Curry?" Pierre Curry said then. "I buried one last year and now I got to bury another one."

It was unclear who fired the gun that shot Michael, but his grandmother told ABC 7 Chicago that he went through some boxes in his townhouse and shot himself in the head.
