New Des Plaines deputy fire chief sworn in

A Des Plaines native and veteran of the fire department who has risen through the ranks has been appointed as the new deputy fire chief.

Peter Dyer, who joined the fire department in 1987, was sworn in to his new position at Monday's city council meeting. Dyer replaces Randy Trost, who left in October to take a job as deputy chief of the Tri-Lakes Monument Fire Protection District, which is located just outside Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Dyer became an assistant paramedic coordinator in 1995, lieutenant in 1999, and division chief of emergency medical services in 2007.
