Lakemoor police warn of car burglaries

Lakemoor police have issued a community alert after receiving several reports in recent weeks of thieves entering unlocked vehicles and removing GPS devices and other items. Police say residents should use common sense and don't leave valuables in plain view. If you must leave them in your car while out, move them before reaching your destination or do so inconspicuously, as thieves can break into a vehicle quickly once you are out of sight. Plan shopping or errands so you don't load the trunk until you drive to another destination and never open a trunk, fill it with valuables, close it and walk away. Police say to lock all the vehicle doors even if you plan to be gone a short time, set the alarm or anti-theft device, and don't use "hide-a-keys" as thieves know where to find them.
