Fox River Grove fire officials save dog from pond

The Fox River Grove Fire Department helped out a furry friend in need Tuesday when they saved a dog who had fallen through thin ice and into a retention pond.

The dog fell into the pond near 276 Foxmoor Road around 8:35 a.m. after it wandered about 30 feet from shore on the frozen lake, Fox River Grove Fire Chief Robert Kreher said.

The dog was on a walk at the time, Kreher said. The woman who was walking the dog was working on a training exercise and took the dog off its leash, he said.

He said divers wore a cold water diving suit to rescue the dog. He said no people were injured.
