Shopping spree helps make kids' season bright

The Round Lake Beach Police Department treated about 40 kids to a $100 shopping spree Monday to buy Christmas presents for themselves and their family members at Wal-Mart in Round Lake Beach.

"It's humbling when you can help this many families at this time of year," said police Cmdr. Gary Lunn.

A police officer accompanied each child as he or she picked out clothes, toys and other needed items.

Money was raised through personal donations and from local businesses.

"It makes me happy to know that my family will get something for Christmas," said 10-year-old Haley Molina of Round Lake Beach.

The shopping was preceded by a party at the Round Lake Beach Cultural and Civic Center with holiday music, face painting and food donated by the Round Lake Beach Buffalo Wild Wings.
