Police: Woman stabbed in forest preserve near Palatine
A 33-year-old woman was stabbed while jogging on a trail in the Deer Grove East forest preserve near Palatine Saturday afternoon, authorities said.
The woman was alone on the trail when a man stabbed her in the abdomen, Cook County Forest Preserves police spokesman Don Parker said.
Investigators combed the forest preserve along West Dundee Road after her attacker fled on foot. He is described as Hispanic, 5 foot 7 inches tall, with a medium build and bald. He was wearing a black shirt and two earrings in his right ear.
The woman was able to drive to a nearby home where an ambulance was called. Parker could not say why she went there or where the house was. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, said Sophia Ansari, a spokeswoman for the Cook County Sheriff's Office, which is leading the ongoing investigation.
Sheriff's deputies were called to the preserve about 4:40 p.m. There was no one in custody Saturday night, Ansari said. Authorities have not recovered a weapon, Parker added.
Palatine fire officials would only say that paramedics rushed to Dundee Road and took a person to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
Forest preserves police urged anyone with information to call (708) 771-1000.
