Clayson House presents Christmas Open House

The Palatine Historical Society's annual Holiday Open House will celebrate Christmas through the Decades from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, at the Clayson House Museum, 224 E. Palatine Road, Palatine. Each room will be decorated to reflect holidays from the past and the event will include costumed characters, music and refreshments. The Open House is free and open to the community.

The rooms will be decorated to reflect different periods of time, including a Late Victorian dining room, an 1860s parlor, the Edwardian living room, a 1920s kitchen, a children's room from the 1930s, a bedroom from the 1940s, and the 1950s Palatine Room.

After the Open House, the exhibit and decorations can be viewed through Jan. 3. Regular museum hours are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, and from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sundays.

The Clayson House was constructed as a residence in 1873, by George Clayson, a nurseryman who served on the Palatine village board. It has been jointly owned by the Palatine park and library districts since 1976, and is the home of the Palatine Historical Society. Its restoration was undertaken as a bicentennial project by the citizens of Palatine Township and the Palatine Historical Society. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on March 21, 1979; opened to the public on Oct. 7, 1979.
