Lindenhurst man killed in crash on Route 120 near Lakemoor

A section of Route 120 between Darrell Road and Fisher Road west of Route 12 near Lakemoor was closed for more than six hours Tuesday after a fatal accident earlier in the day.

The accident occurred at 9:30 a.m. on Route 120 near Fisher Road, according to the Lake County Sheriff's Office. A man was killed in a crash and another person was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. The man was identified by the Lake County coroner's office as Gordon Searle, 46, of Lindenhurst.

Authorities remained on the scene Tuesday afternoon as the investigation continued and drivers were diverted. Route 120 reopened just after 4 p.m.

Lake County Sheriff's Sgt. Sara Balmes said the accident involved five vehicles. A GMC van traveling east on Route 120 collided with a Honda Accord driven by Searle traveling west. After the crash, a westbound UPS vehicle was struck by debris, Balmes said. At that point, the van collided with a Ford pickup and a landscape trailer, she added.

Further information was not available and it was too soon to discuss factors that may have contributed to the crash, she said. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday morning.
