Lake Zurich fitness center wants new space to have room to grow

Citing a desire to expand his business, a co-owner of a Lake Zurich gymnasium wants to move the operation to an industrial area on Main Street.

At a public hearing this week, the advisory Lake Zurich plan commission gave a thumbs-up to granting a special-use permit to CrossFit Lykos so the business can move from 532 W. Main St. to a warehouse in an industrial area at 143 E. Main near Church Street. Village board trustees, who get the final say on issues, are expected to vote on the CrossFit Lykos request at a meeting Monday, Dec. 1.

CrossFit Lykos intends to use 10,000 square feet adjacent to Main Street Sports Center in the industrial area. Acknowledging a plan commission concern about a possible lack of parking, co-owner Shawn Bostick said he has agreements to use other nearby spaces.

"We're just looking to expand that gym with the current membership base we have into a larger space so that the business can grow," Bostick told the plan commission.

CrossFit Lykos is billed as a facility that incorporates mobility, strength training, group warm-ups and conditioning into every workout. Bostick said the facility is open daily and typically has small classes that don't exceed 20 at any given time.
