Huntley board appoints trustee to fill vacancy

The Huntley village board recently approved the appointment of Chuck Huffman to fill a vacancy on the board.

Former trustee Nick Hanson resigned earlier this fall to move out of state for a job. Huffman will finish out Hanson's elected term, which runs through April when the seat is up for election.

Huffman, 75, and his wife, Delores, have lived in Huntley for 26 years and have three grown children.

"I'm honored that I have been asked to serve this great community," Huffman said. "I hope to help the continuance of the great leadership this community has had for many years."

Huffman works as a general superintendent for Hoffman Estates-based Plote Construction for 27 years.

"I have been involved in various projects around the village, been somewhat active behind the scenes," Huffman said.

Village President Chuck Sass said Huffman has been instrumental in several major construction projects in the village - the full access interchange at Route 47 and Interstate 90, widening of Route 47, extending Kreutzer Road west, and pavement work along the east side of Kreutzer Road.

"He's been a great ally to the village," Sass said. "He loves the village, and he's a good guy, and he stepped up."

Sass previously has said he didn't want to appoint someone who would seek election to a full term in April because it would give the candidate an unfair advantage.

Huffman said he does not plan to run for election.

"I have no aspiration to continue (as trustee)," he said. "I hope to help out with the budget. It's a crucial time of year."
