Buffalo Grove names Stilling its first community development director

After a lengthy search, Buffalo Grove has landed its first community development director, hiring certified planner Christopher Stilling away from a similar position in the village of Cary.

Stilling, who will lead the village's economic development, building, zoning, planning, permitting and inspection services, is expected to begin work in Buffalo Grove Dec. 15.

"I am very excited to be joining the village of Buffalo Grove." Stilling said in a news release. "The village offers many great opportunities, along with providing a high quality of service to its residents and businesses."

Stilling has worked as Cary's director of community development since January 2013. He previously served in community development and planning roles for the villages of Lombard and Palatine, according to his LinkedIn profile.

"Mr. Stilling stood out as an experienced professional with good follow through, a strong work ethic and high integrity," Buffalo Grove Village Manager Dane Bragg said in a news release. "Mr. Stilling has extensive experience in economic development both in the private and public sector, and will make a great addition to the village's executive team."

Stilling holds a bachelor's degree in political science and urban studies and a master's degree in urban planning and policy from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

His appointment is part of an ongoing restructuring of village services, according to the village.
