West Chicago man gets 30 years for raping 12-year-old
A 32-year-old West Chicago man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for sexually abusing the 12-year-old daughter of a friend.
Javier Rocha-Sosa, of the 1000 block of Joliet Road, pleaded guilty late Monday to two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault and was sentenced by Judge Blanche Hill Fawell.
Prosecutors said Rocha-Sosa sexually assaulted the girl for five months during the summer of 2013 while her mother was at work.
Rocha-Sosa's actions were discovered when the girl's mother walked in on him sexually assaulting her daughter, authorities said. The victim's mother immediately called police and Rocha-Sosa fled the scene.
Prosecutors said Rocha-Sosa returned to the home the next day to talk with the girl and her mother. The mother again called police who arrived a short time later and arrested Rocha-Sosa.
He has remained in custody since that time held on a $500,000 bail.
"At the tender age of 12, this young victim was repeatedly subjected to sexual assaults by a man she and her mother considered a family friend," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a written statement. "Throughout the investigation, however, the strength and courage she has displayed are nothing short of remarkable for such a young girl. She has been through a great deal and I sincerely hope that she will recover fully from the emotional and physical harm Mr. Rocha-Sosa inflicted upon her."
Rocha-Sosa will be required to serve 85 percent of his sentence before being eligible for parole.
