Voter registration mix-up turned out OK

I agree almost 100 percent with Mr. Donahue ("A modification for same-day registration," Nov. 8), but my wife ran into a problem on Election Day. We went to the polling place we've used for over 20 years (and we vote in every election). I signed in and voted, but they told my wife they had no record of her and that she had to go the Hoffman Estates city hall to register and vote. They said that this had happened to several people.

We obviously thought this was nuts, but off we went. At the city hall we told our story and they did some checking and found she was indeed registered. So they gave her a note and we returned to our polling place and she was allowed to vote. This was one of the few times in our 50-plus years of voting we were able to vote for a winner. Who knows, if enough people were told to go to same-day registration and did not bother, maybe Pat Quinn would have won. Ugh!
