Exodus of public employees? C'mon.

Metra has given raises of 15 percent and more. Like every other public employer organization, they use the justification of hiring and retaining employees.

I have yet to see a mass exodus of employees from any public employer. Why should they leave when they get three or four weeks vacation, 10-11 holidays per year, a dozen sick days and a pension few if any in private industry get?

What is the real turnover of Metra employees who leave for other jobs? Recently the DuPage Forest District tried to hire an administrator from the DuPage clerk's office. Will the clerk now have to give that employee a pay raise to retain him, aka the William Maio retirement bonus?

If they don't like the pay offered when they get hired, maybe they should look in the private industry.
