Madigan, Democrats will still govern this state

I am among those trying to assess the meaning of November's election. As a conservative viewing national election results, I'm encouraged that so many voters finally woke up and repudiated President Obama's arrogance, detachment and wrongheaded policies - after his promised "hope" degenerated into hopelessness.

However, the picture in Illinois hasn't really brightened. With good reason, a majority of Illinois voters felt that Bruce Rauner would be a far better leader than the affable, but incompetent, Gov. Pat Quinn. But what are we to think about the 1,608,152 people who pressed the screen and voted for Mr. Quinn? Obviously, they thought that government in Illinois is just ducky and wanted more of the same. While some of this number are ignorant, ill-informed, or voted as they were told by others, it would be insulting to suggest that this was true of all Quinn supporters. Clearly, a lot of smart people looked at bad stuff and, instead, believed it was good stuff.

Votes for members seeking election in Illinois' General Assembly tell us that citizens wanted to preserve the people and the party that has run Illinois into the ground. I can't understand the logic, but it is indisputable almost half of the voters believe in wild spending, unsustainable public debt, more government and taxes, pay-to-play, corruption, and family political dynasties.

To ensure that they get the government they value, voters have given House leader Michael Madigan a super-Democrat majority; and that means that the Democrats can override a veto by Mr. Rauner of any bill he can't support. This positions Mr. Rauner as a tiger without any teeth.

And so it is that Mr. Madigan remains the real governor of our state and will, presumably, further advance its destruction. Sorry, but none of this makes sense to me.
