St. Charles library offers business tax seminar Dec. 3

The St. Charles Public Library will host a workshop for entrepreneurs interested in starting a business and for current business owners who want a refresher on taxes. A "Business Tax Seminar" will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, in the library's Carnegie Community Room, 1 S. Sixth Ave.

Presenter Harry Eng of SCORE will explain the most common types of taxes, how the form of business affects how income is distributed and reported, and what constitutes income and expenses. It also will cover record keeping requirements, when and how a business reports and pays its taxes, penalties for not doing it right or on time, and where you can get help when you need it.

Eng is a financial executive, speaker on federal and state taxation, Fortune 50 corporate executive, and certified public accountant. He holds a bachelor of science in accountancy from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and an MBA in comptrollership from Syracuse University in New York.

SCORE is a national, nonprofit association composed of retired and semiretired executives and business owners who share their business experience and provide free business mentoring to anyone who is operating a small business or thinking about starting one.

Registration is required for this free program. For more information or to register, visit stcharleslibrary.org or call (630) 584-0076.
