Elgin woman, teens charged in car burglaries in Bartlett, Hanover Park

An 35-year-old Elgin woman and two teenagers are accused of stealing credit cards, electronics and other items from unlocked cars in a string of burglaries in Bartlett and Hanover Park, police said Tuesday.

Lyndeana M. Taylor and two teenage boys - ages 15 and 17 - face nine felony counts of burglary to motor vehicles and two misdemeanor counts of criminal trespass to vehicles, according to Bartlett and Hanover Park police said.

Taylor, who lives on the 1100 block of Algonquin Drive in Elgin, also was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and driving on a suspended license.

Just after 2 a.m. Saturday, a Hanover Park resident on St. Ann Drive saw two people checking the door handles of neighbors' cars, while a van driven by a woman followed behind the pair, Hanover Park police said.

The group fled the area, but the resident was able to give police a description of the van and a license plate number.

A Hanover Park officer spotted a vehicle matching the description and pulled over the driver in a traffic stop near Barrington Road and Maple Avenue, authorities said.

Police recovered credit cards, clothing, purses, wallets, cash and electronics, among other items, Deputy Chief Andy Johnson said in an email.

"Eyewitness testimony, a prompt call to 911, and quick info sharing between the caller, dispatch, and our officers was key in the apprehension," he wrote.

Meanwhile, Bartlett police were called about 8:50 a.m. Saturday to the 1000 block of Dunamon Drive on a report that five unlocked vehicles were recently burglarized.

Bartlett investigators learned that Hanover Park police had taken Taylor and the two teenagers into custody.

Taylor is being held in DuPage County Jail on $70,000 bail and would need to post 10 percent to be released. The teenagers, whose names are not being released because they are juveniles, were taken to the Kane County Juvenile Detention Center.
