Schaumburg police investigating report of tainted dog treats

Schaumburg police are investigating a report of tainted dog treats that were discovered in a backyard, police said Tuesday.

The treats were found in the backyard of a home on the 0-100 block of Stevens Drive, according to a news release.

On Monday, a resident of the home said their dog was in the backyard earlier that day. The resident noticed that the dog was eating a dog treat that the animal had not received from the resident.

Several of these treats were in the yard, the resident reported, and the resident saw an "unknown foreign substance" in the treat, according to the news release.

The dog suffered intestinal discomfort and is being treated by a veterinarian. Police say the case appears to be an isolated incident, and that they have not received any other reports regarding tainted dog treats.
