Prosecutors: No charges yet in juvenile sexting, cyberbullying case

Lake County's top law enforcement official stressed Monday that no formal charges have been lodged against the teenagers linked to allegations of sexting and cyberbullying of a Warren Township High School student.

Authorities last week said four suspects were under investigation in the case. Those suspects are three boys from Warren's O'Plaine Road campus for freshmen and sophomores in Gurnee and a female freshman at Grayslake Central High School.

Lake County State's Attorney Mike Nerheim announced Monday that his office has not approved charges in the case. He said prosecutors are awaiting juvenile referrals and accompanying documentation, then will review the information in light of guidance provided by Lake County juvenile court to determine the appropriate course of action.

Gurnee police said the victim of the sexting and cyberbullying is a freshman at Warren's O'Plaine Road building. Authorities have not released details about the case.

All of the juveniles were processed at Gurnee police headquarters and released to their parents.
