Bartlett Volunteer Fire Association to raffle off turkeys

Although there will be birds, there's nothing fowl about this Bartlett fundraiser.

The Bartlett Volunteer Fire Association will raffle off 90 fresh Tom Turkeys - 16 to 30 pounders - at the Bartlett Fire Barn, 218 S. Main St. The pre-Thanksgiving tradition starts at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22.

Another incentive to enter? The free "famous turkey salad sandwiches" also will be served.

"The Turkey Raffle is one of the largest community events in Bartlett," association President Mike Dexter said in a news release. "For over 50 years, people have been coming from all over the tri-village area for an affordable opportunity at getting their Thanksgiving Turkey."

The nonprofit supports a variety of causes and waives the rental fee of the Fire Barn for other charitable users. The association also recently made a donation to Bartlett police to equip patrol cars with automated external defibrillators.

Besides the birds, some winners will receive beverages and a $50 gift certificate to Jewel grocery stores. To buy tickets, call (630) 837-5861 or email secretary@bartlettvfa.org.
