Arlington Heights man injured in Mount Prospect drive-by shooting

Mount Prospect police are investigating a drive-by shooting Wednesday night that left an Arlington Heights man injured, authorities said.

Police responded to a 911 call by a witness to Algonquin Road and Dempster Street at 8:19 p.m. Wednesday where two men were shot at, Mount Prospect Officer Gregory Sill said.

Witnesses told police occupants in a white vehicle traveling northwest on Algonquin yelled something out of the car window seconds before a front-seat passenger fired three shots at a group of men standing near a large trash bin just west of a gas station and convenience store, Sill said.

One of the bullets hit a 21-year-old man in the arm, Sill said. Police found the man outside a strip mall north of Dempster Street on Busse Road, Sill said.

He was taken to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

A 38-year-old Arlington Heights man escaped injury but had a bullet hole in his clothing, Sill said.

Sill said the white vehicle - possibly a Honda or Hyundai - continued northwest on Algonquin Road and disappeared from sight.

Two of the occupants of the vehicle are described as Hispanic males wearing hoodies, Sill said, adding the shooting is possibly gang-related.

Police have interviewed the two Arlington Heights men and witnesses, Sill said.

The shooting remains under investigation. Anyone with information should call the Mount Prospect Police Department Investigations Section at (847) 870-5654, or CRIME STOPPERS at (847) 590-7867.
