Gurnee cops won't shave for a cause

Some Gurnee cops won't shave in November as part of an annual fundraising walk and run. Officers are forming a team to participate in No Shave November to raise money for the 21st Annual Jon Callaghan Memorial Turkey Trot 5K Fun Run and Walk. Officers, who are normally required to be clean shaven, will be allowed to grow a beard in November for a $40 donation made to the Gurnee Fraternal Order of Police Social Lodge. The Gurnee FOP Social Lodge will donate the funds to the Turkey Trot. The Jon Callaghan Memorial Turkey Trot, which will be at 8 a.m. Thanksgiving in the 4600 block of Old Grand Avenue, uses funds raised to help the Warren Township Food Bank, University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital, Gurnee Elementary District 56 special needs programs, Gurnee Community Church and many others in need. Callaghan was a District 56 student who died in 1997 after a courageous battle with neuroblastoma cancer.
