Rolling Meadows police looking for hit-and-run driver

Rolling Meadows police are looking for a driver who was racing through a parking lot on Tuesday night when he hit a man and left the scene of the accident.

Two drivers were "drifting" or skidding around corners quickly in an empty parking lot at 5600 Apollo in Rolling Meadows around 7:20 p.m. Tuesday, said Sgt. Tom Gadomski.

An employee at the business came out to try to write down the license plate numbers and call police when one of the cars hit him, police said. Both drivers fled, Gadomski said. The victim was taken to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights with nonlife-threatening injuries.

The car that hit the man was described as a dark, possible black, BMW series 3 from between 2000 and 2005 with extensive bumper damage and a windshield wiper broken off, Gadomski said.

Police said they have had a few similar reports of drifting in that parking lot before.

"They come in the evening when no one is around and basically spin around in circles," Gadomski said. "It's very reckless. They have no control of the vehicle."

Rolling Meadows Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for anyone who comes forward with information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the driver.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call (847) 2555-2416.
