Elgin 18-year-old charged with murder

An 18-year-old Elgin man was charged with murder after police said he stabbed a man who died of his injuries Wednesday.

William Donald, of the 600 block of Alice Place, was being held on $5 million bond in Kane County jail after being charged with two counts of first-degree murder. He appeared in the Elgin branch of Kane County bond court Wednesday afternoon.

Anthony Nunez, 21, of the 400 block of Shenandoah Trail in Elgin, died of his injuries at Presence St. Joseph Hospital, where he had been taken following the stabbing at about 4:40 p.m. Monday in the 1800 block of Natchez Trace, police said.

Police said they believe Nunez and Donald knew each other and met in Eagle Park, where an altercation ensued and Nunez was stabbed multiple times. Nunez was bleeding heavily when paramedics arrived.

Donald was taken into custody at about 8 p.m. after police said they interviewed several witnesses.

Donald is next due in court at 9 a.m. Nov. 12.
