Mount Prospect man sentenced for sexually abusing teen

A 35-year-old Mount Prospect man was sentenced to 19 years in prison for sexually assaulting a teenage girl.

Rafael Avila was found guilty of multiple counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

Cook County Judge Thomas Fecarotta sentenced Avila to four consecutive prison terms of four years each, followed by an additional three-year term. Avila received credit for 449 days in custody and was ordered to pay $1,889 in fines. He must also register as a sex offender upon his release.

Avila assaulted the victim for about two years beginning when she was 13, prosecutors said.
