Elgin man stabbed in fight at park

A 21-year-old Elgin man suffered life-threatening injuries Monday when he was stabbed during a fight at Eagle Park on Elgin's west side, according to police.

About 4:40 p.m. Elgin police were called to the 1800 block of Natchez Trace for an injured person who was bleeding heavily, police said in a news release.

The man was taken to Presence St. Joseph's Hospital, where he is being treated for serious injuries.

Police say the victim and another man met at the park and a fight broke out, with the victim being stabbed multiple times. The stabbing doesn't seem to be gang-related, police said.

About 8 p.m., police said they took a man into custody related to the stabbing, which remains under investigation.
