Singh's views more in line with 54th district
Vote for Laddi Singh for D54 House Representative. She exemplifies the American dream; arriving as an immigrant who worked at McDonald's and loaded baggage at the airport to pay for her education.
Her ability to relate to others and strong work ethic enabled her to became the owner and CEO of a small business. Laddi is respectful, knowledgeable and highly capable of representing all in her district. She respects tradition, yet honors diversity.
I am a constituent of Tom Morrison. In 2013 he sent a letter to myself and others. Part of the text compared gay marriage to marriage between adult men and consenting 9-year-old girls. His extremist views are designed to malign and deny rights to an entire community of GLBT people.
Morrison refers to himself as pro-family, but ... during a debate was asked how he voted on HB5705, a bill which added cyberbullying to established anti-bullying laws. He replied that we have enough laws and that it's the duty of parents to educate their children about this issue. The bill passed.
He voted against sex-education in schools and will not budge on abortion, even in cases of rape or incest. He did not support a bill requiring businesses to accommodate pregnant women. He supports fundamentalist Christian teachings in public schools. He opposes the Equal Rights Amendment for women. He does not accept global warming.
You cannot be an effective representative of the people without honoring diversity. Public servants must be able to represent the interests of all their constituents and their equitable rights under the law. The Northwest suburbs are becoming more diverse. These diversities include religious orientation, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicities, age, physical capabilities and other ideologies.
The extreme, ultraconservative views of Tom Morrison leave him too narrow-minded to be a fair representative of the people.
