Tell us the good things you do
I was absolutely delighted to open my paper on Oct. 23 and see your editorial, "A chance to inspire, not scare, voters." After being bombarded nightly with negative ad after negative ad, I turned to my husband yesterday and said, "Wouldn't you think it would be more productive if these guys would use their airtime to tell us about the good things they can do for us? At this point, I have no idea who the better candidate is because according to these TV ads, they are both lying scumbags!"
Your article hit it on the head. As a voter, all those ads do is convince me that I have no idea who the "ideal" candidate is, and I would be better off not voting. I'm sure I'm not alone. Tell me who you are. Tell me what you believe in and why I should vote for you. Tell me your ideas to change things for the better. Give me examples of how you did something I would like to hear about, not what you say the other guy did or didn't do.
If the politicians want to see the poll numbers go up, stop this type of campaigning. This isn't scandal - we live in the real world and that's what we want to hear about. Things that actually matter to us, the voters.
