How about point system in elections?

This coming election I face the dilemma along with many other voting constituents of not wanting to vote "for" any of the candidates for a particular office. I have little faith in what either candidate has to offer and they are pouring millions of dollars into campaign rhetoric which will change few peoples minds and is an absolute waste of money except for those in receipt of it.

I will once again be put in the position of voting "for" the candidate opposing that which I know I do not want to see in office again. I have strong beliefs and values I must go against as I am not truly voting "for" that candidate but against his opposition. Faced with limited unacceptable choices, what alternative is there? I am staunch believer in voting and third party candidates are rarely viable.

I, therefore, have a proposal - change the voting system to a points system where candidates are listed on the ballot and one can vote "yes" or "no" for them. A "yes" vote would count for one point and a "no" vote would count for negative one point.

I know who I do not want to see in office again, this way I can vote "no" for them and uphold my beliefs. Tally up the count at the end and winner is based on points. Meaningful, detailed results should be published as well revealing whether winning candidate was truly voted in or losing candidate was voted out.
