Blackhawks disagree with 'interpretation' of loss

The Saturday Showdown in St. Louis will most likely be remembered for the Slo-Mo goal … that finally was.

With the game tied at 1-1 late in the second period, big Ryan Reaves crashed the net - literally - and after some general confusion and a video review from the war room, it was determined that the puck had crossed the goal line, if only for a nanosecond.

"The guy just came and pushed me into the net and then the puck went over the line," said Hawks goalie Antti Raanta, who stopped 28 of 31 shots. "I think it was like goalie interference or something. I felt like it was a bad call that the refs made, but it's hard to say because I couldn't see what they were seeing."

Raanta wasn't the only one confused by the whole situation.

"I disagreed with the interpretation of how they described what happened," Hawks coach Joel Quenneville said.

It proved to be a huge goal, not only because it gave the Blues their first lead but also put the Hawks on their heels a bit with the end result being a 3-2 loss, their second consecutive defeat on the road.

With the Scottrade Center still buzzing from Reaves' goal, Dmitrij Jaskin provided the backbreaker in the final seconds of the second when he scored off a rebound to make it 3-1.

"I didn't like their third one," Quenneville said. "That was hard to watch."

A silly penalty by the Blues' Barret Jackman against Andrew Shaw resulted in an early 5-on-3 power play for the Hawks. It resulted in a sweet cross-crease pass from Patrick Kane to Patrick Sharp, who stuffed it home for a 1-0 lead a minute into this one.

Jaden Schwartz tied the game midway though the first, and that's the way it stayed until the final minutes of the second period when all heck broke loose.

The Hawks continued their mystifying trend of being held scoreless in the second period this season, but early in the third Kris Versteeg made it a game again when he notched his first goal of the season and his first in 11 games dating to last season.

"We got some momentum going there but just couldn't get the equalizer," Quenneville said.

Also in the third period, Daniel Carcillo appeared to go leg on leg with T.J. Oshie and immediately went to the locker room in obvious agony.

Quenneville said he expects the feisty forward to miss at least a few weeks. "He'll come back strong," Quenneville predicted.

Carcillo's injury should pave the way for Jeremy Morin to return to the lineup beginning Sunday night against Ottawa at the United Center.
