Get fit in a new way at the Schaumburg Park District

The Barre-based fitness classes work the body like nothing else!

This popular fitness format blends strength, ballet, yoga and Pilates exercises for a full body, low-impact workout. Participants will notice improved balance, strength and flexibility through a combination of floor exercises and strength work utilizing body weight and light equipment.

"It is very easy on the joints and it doesn't require any dance training at all," said Gina Phillips, fitness instructor. "Everyone works at their own level and it's appropriate for all ages."

Barre classes are taught barefoot from a standing position with some exercises being performed at the barre or on a mat. Participants will use bands, small balls and weights during a workout. The District offers two levels as part of the Fitness Unlimited program. Barre & Beyond is recommended for participants who have taken a few Barre Basics classes.
