Learn how to write realistic crime novels

Want to write a crime or mystery novel, but worried about getting your details right because you don't work for a police department?

The Schaumburg Township District Library may be able to help.

The library will be hosting a full day of free writing workshops presented by Sisters in Crime Chicagoland and Mystery Writers of America Midwest.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, in the adult classroom of the library at 130 S. Roselle Road in Schaumburg.

Attendees will learn how to determine time of death from an entomologist and coroner, how to write realistic serial killers, receive social media tips and gain some guidance on self-editing.

Featured authors also will sign their books available for purchase.

Former McHenry County coroner Marlene Lanz will present "How Insects Tell Us Time of Death," from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m.

"Twitter Tips and Tricks" will be presented by April M. Williams from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., followed by a lunch break.

Local James Bond novelist Raymond Benson will teach "Research Methods" from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

"How to Write Serial Killers" will be taught by Michele May and Michael Major from 2:45 to 3:45 p.m.

Diane Peron-Gelman, Mary Welk and Emily Victorson will lead "Editing Tips: Cleaning It Up Before Sending Your Manuscript to Your Editor" from 4 to 5 p.m.

To register for any or all of the workshops, call (847) 923-3347.
