Time of hatred and discrimination

Time of hatred and discrimination

Leviticus is filled with prohibitions about sexual relations; the only place in the Bible that does.

Putting Leviticus aside, let's look at gay and lesbian unions. Gay and lesbian unions have been with the human race probably since there was a human race.

Humankind used to be more tolerant about this until the middle ages when the Christians began to persecute those who were deemed to be in error of its teachings. Then the protestants came along and things got worse, especially among the Puritans (not the same as the Pilgrims). The Puritans had about half their children born out of wedlock but being a Jew or a Quaker could get you in bigger trouble. Same sex love was deeply hidden for good reason.

Things became much better during the 1920s as everyone was much more tolerant and openly gay unions were known and acknowledged. In the 1940s, open minds began to close again and during the 1950s and gays and lesbian were openly chastised for their relationships. Violence and harassment was encouraged by everyone including the police. And here we are again with massive discrimination and hatred of people who are different from the established norm.

"Pray the gay away" and other stupid ideas for a cure cannot overcome nature. How anyone finds love in this confused and dangerous world either by nature or nurture is OK with me.

As a product of several broken homes, I would have given anything to come home to a loving household even with two mommies or two daddies. Although gay or lesbian unions produce no children (some arguments cite this), there are plenty of children available for adoption into a loving home. Besides, what gays or lesbians do in the privacy of their homes is simply none of anybody's business.
