Batavia police looking for man who attacked officer

Batavia police say they're looking for a man who attacked a police officer from behind earlier this week, sending him to the hospital.

The officer responded to the call just after 3 a.m. Monday at the northwest corner of the Green Meadows Apartment complex on the 1100 block of West Wilson Street, officers said in a news release.

The officer saw a man looking into cars in the parking lot, and when the officer got out of the car to approach the man, he was attacked from behind. The unknown person hit the officer several times before both suspects fled the area, police said.

The officer was treated for injuries not considered life-threatening and was released from a nearby hospital.

Batavia police are seeking information regarding this crime. Anyone with information should call (630) 454-2500. A cash reward of $1,500 is offered for information that leads to arrests in the case.
