Lombard synagogue vandalized Tuesday
A Lombard synagogue was vandalized Tuesday, with the offender damaging the lawn, "defacing" the door with graffiti and breaking seven windows, officials said.
Lombard police responded to the Congregation Etz Chaim of DuPage County, 1710 S. Highland Ave., around 4:30 p.m. for a report of criminal damage to property in progress.
The suspect was arrested and the incident remains an active investigation, Lombard police said Tuesday night.
According to an email from Associate Rabbi Andrea Cosnowsky, everyone in the building is safe.
"We are working closely with the Lombard Police Department, reviewing the security measures that are currently in place and we are being advised as to what other measures we can take for the future," Cosnowsky wrote in an email.
She wrote that they had their monthly board meeting Tuesday evening, but that two police officers stayed to "patrol the premises."
"We are continuing to work hard to ensure the safety of our community members and our building," she wrote in the email.
