Hawks' Crawford doing his best to stay sharp

In the Blackhawks' last two games at the United Center, goalie Corey Crawford has faced a combined 38 shots on net.

Not much of a workload, and Crawford certainly isn't complaining, but the sporadic nature of things can be quite an adjustment.

"These last few games at home have been a little slow at times for me in the net," Crawford said. "It's just a matter of staying ready and being excited for the next shot that comes."

But with the skill level up front on this team, Crawford knows to expect more of the same throughout the season.

"It's going to happen again," he said. "We have really good puck possession a lot of the time so there's going to be times again where I go 10 minutes without a shot.

"I just have to be ready."

Power down:

It seems like a broken record: another game, another night where the Hawks struggle on the power play.

Coming off a 1-for-7 performance on the power play in a 2-1 OT loss to Calgary on Wednesday, the Hawks were blanked against Nashville on the man advantage Saturday.

"We just have to get the feel for each other out there," said Jonathan Toews, who scored the game-winner against the Predators in OT. "Just have confidence and not be afraid to make mistakes.

"I think after one or two power plays, we might have started to try and force things a little bit. You just have to forget about the last one and make sure the next one is better."

Lost in the shuffle:

If not for the play of Corey Crawford late, and the play of Jonathan Toews even later, defenseman Johnny Oduya would have gotten a lot more pub for his game Saturday.

Not only did he open the scoring with his first goal of the season on the first shot of the game, he also stopped a couple of prime scoring chances at the other end with some deft stickwork and added a team-high 5 blocked shots.

Not too shabby.

Fun with numbers:

The Hawks have allowed only 95 shots against, while tallying 160 shots on goal through four games ... The Hawks are 3-0 when scoring first this year, after going 34-2-7 last season.

He said it:

"He's OK. He'll get better."
