Duckworth's work on immigration vital

I think this summer has shown that this country is in need of serious immigration reform. And this reform is not a simple matter of removing everyone who does not belong. This is a much more complex issue with many factors that must be carefully considered, and I believe Rep. Tammy Duckworth fully comprehends the delicacy of this issue.

Tammy is not only a strong advocate for immigration reform that is fair, but reform that is sensible and humane. She has displayed concern for those in her district who experience how difficult immigration is - learning a new language, connecting with needed services, obtaining documentation, and keeping families intact.

Tammy is also practical about reform and understands that many immigrants did not come to this country yesterday. They are woven into the fabric of our communities and our economy. Here in Illinois, 17.7 percent of labor is foreign-born and 20.3 percent of Illinois business owners are immigrants who generate $5.4 billion in income.

Tammy understands that immigration must be reformed carefully. She recognizes that immigrants can contribute to our economy and removing those that already do could compromise economic growth. We and immigrants to the U.S. need Rep. Tammy Duckworth's continued leadership to fix our broken immigration laws, so as to help grow the economy and ensure that families are kept together. A patchwork of individual laws will not do enough.

Instead, Tammy, as she characteristically does, will work with others on both sides of the aisle in Congress to promote a practical, fair and humane solution to our broken immigration system. It is crucial that we re-elect Tammy Duckworth to another term in the United States Congress, so she can continue this vital work.
