Chicago fire festival goes up in smoke
Job creation is certainly what is sorely needed in Chicago given that industry has abandoned the area due to the high cost of doing business there. A shrinking world resulted in a highly competitive world economy where reasonably priced goods now rule the economy regardless of where they are made.
The recreation of The Great Chicago Fire Festival raised many eyebrows as a way to create a few temporary jobs. It employed a few people during a year's time to make a series of fantasy land model homes that were to be floated on the Chicago River and set afire.
This display was mostly a fiasco that did not go off as envisioned. It went up mostly in smoke at a cost of one million dollars that could have been much better spent creating real permanent jobs.
