Glenbard South in second place after first day

The Glenbard South boys golf team will start Day 2 of the two-day Class 2A tournament in second place.

The Raiders shot a 316 Friday in Normal, leaving them 4 shots behind leader Morton.

Glenbard South junior Russell Matos shot a 76, putting him in fifth place individually, 4 shots behind leaders Eric Gilpin of Bloomington Central Catholic and Tommy Kuhl of Morton. Raiders senior Michael Wittenberg is in a four-way tie for sixth at 77.

St. Francis is in seventh place at 328. Junior Jonathan Nocek led the Spartans with a 78.

Hinsdale Central leads the Class 3A boys tournament with a 300, 3 shots better than second-place New Trier. York is seventh at 319.

Hinsdale Central also is in first place at the Class AA girls tournament, tied with New Trier, which also shot a 322. Wheaton Warrenville South is third at 328, and Waubonsie Valley is 10th at 350.

Defending individual champion Jessica Yuen of Neuqua Valley is in first place again, a three-way tie with Alexis Biedrzycki of Lincoln-Way West and Madasyn Pettersen of Rockford Guilford with a 73.

Waubonsie Valley senior Bing Singhsumalee, who tied for second last year, and Wheaton Warrenville South senior Kelly Anderson are tied for fourth with Carbondale's Paige Bird at 75.

In the Class A girls tournament, Wheaton Academy is tied for 10th place with Geneseo after shooting a 387. Eldorado is first at 341. Junior Hailey Farmer's 91 led the Warriors.
